Jeffrey H. Smith, Ph.D., is a member of the Mission and Systems Architecture Section at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He has developed decision analysis methodologies and tools for the analysis of advanced space missions and technologies for NASA. He has authored over 100 technical papers spanning a wide variety of disciplines and applications.

Dr. Smith has been a principal investigator on computational approaches to the R&D Portfolio Selection problem and has developed algorithms and tools for technology evaluation, technology portfolio management, and automated resource allocation systems. He has extensive experience in decision support systems and software development applied to technology management.

He received his BS and MS degrees in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona; MA in Economics and Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California where he has taught in the Marshall School of Business and Departments of Mathematics and Systems Engineering. He has also taught at the UCLA Business and Engineering Program and the Claremont Graduate University for the Peter Drucker Executive Management Program. His hobbies include the martial arts, classical guitar, hiking, and backpacking.
