The latest update of the START website includes two new case studies, each of which features a significant variation on the START methodology.
Mission Activity Planning for Humans and Robots on the Moon describes a series of studies designed to optimize the allocation and scheduling of tasks conducted by astronauts and robots in mission scenarios on the lunar surface. We've added a section (item #4) to our page on Operational Steps to describe the methodology we employed for these studies, which includes a new software planning tool.
START Lite is a case study that details how a stripped-down version of the START methodology can augment the existing process by which NASA�s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program determines which applicants will receive funding, given that its budget is insufficient to make awards to all technically qualified candidates. The objective was to provide a transparent, quantitative decision-making capability based on criteria which could enhance the potential for funded technologies to be used in NASA missions.
